Finnmark Snowmobile Tour

On your arrival day, you’ll be picked up at the airport in Tromsø, then it’s off to our beautiful Oksfjordhjem. A cozy accommodation and a delicious reindeer dish await you there.

You’ll get to know your guide and receive some exciting information about the tour before ending the evening in the sauna or in front of the cozy stove.

The next morning, after breakfast, we head to the starting point of the tour. After a detailed introduction to snowmobiling, we’ll start the engines and head out.

Step by step up the serpentines, the view becomes more breathtaking. Once we reach the mountain plateau, the trail leads us east, further and further towards Finnmark. We’ll recharge with some lunch before swinging back onto the snowmobiles. The route takes us right through Norway’s most beautiful mountains. We continue to Kautokeino, where we can let our gaze wander over the valley on the long descent. Once in Kautokeino, a comfortable hotel with a sauna and whirlpool awaits us. In the evening, we’ll enjoy a meal at the hotel’s own restaurant.

After breakfast, we hop on our snowmobiles and drive through the wooded taiga of Norway. This is where the chances of seeing reindeer, moose, and other wildlife are highest. Arriving in Suossjärvi, we’ll be warmly welcomed by our hosts and, with a bit of luck, surprised with a local delicacy. The view of Finnmark is best enjoyed from the house’s heated lavvu tent, the perfect way to end the evening.

Our route continues through the vast Norwegian forests towards Karasjok. The often snow-covered trees make us feel like we’re in the middle of a fairytale forest. In Karasjok, a unique accommodation awaits us, taking us back to the days of the Alaska gold miners. The lodgings are located on a husky farm. Despite the rustic style, the accommodations are equipped with a bathroom (toilet, shower) and have Wi-Fi.

After a night in the trapper’s cabin, the trail leads us north, where after about 50 km we leave the wooded area and head back out onto the Finnmark plateau. The rolling hills and wide plains let your eyes wander. Our destination for the day is Mollisjok, an accommodation located in the middle of the wilderness, equipped with a sauna. Electricity and Wi-Fi are available here, but there is no running water.

After a hearty breakfast, we continue on the snowmobiles across the plateau until we drive down into the valley to Mazi; the view of the Mazi valley and the river is beautiful. Continuing on the other side of Mazi, we head back up to the plateau to the Bingis cabin. Here in the highlands, we can try our hand at ice fishing and, with a bit of luck, roast our catch on the grill in the evening.

Our last day of riding demands all our remembered knowledge and driving skills as we head back to Reisa. The 165 km distance over the mountains will push us one last time. The final descent into the valley perfectly rounds off the 6-day excursion.

Once back at the starting point, we return to the Oksfjordhjem accommodation, where we’ll review our adventures on the final evening.

On the day of departure, we’ll take you to the bus in the morning, which brings you directly to Tromsø city center. From there, you can continue to the airport or take another look around Tromsø and taste Norwegian specialties in one of the local restaurants.
