Your journey

What are your plans?

Multi-day tour

We'll pick you up.

For our multi-day tours, the airport transfer is included; you only need to book your flight. We usually pick you up in Tromsø; the specific airport for your tour is listed in the tour description. We will send you the exact meeting point before your trip.

The drive to us takes three to four hours and involves two ferries across the Lyngen Peninsula. Depending on the tour, we will either take you back to the airport or you will take the bus to Tromsø. We cover the cost of the bus ticket, and we'll explain how to get from the bus to the airport beforehand.

Day Tour

Making your own way here.

For day tours, you arrange your own travel. The meeting point is our farm: Øvergårdveien 401, 9158 Storslett.

If you are staying nearby, we can pick you up for most day tours in Storslett, Sørkjosen, or Reisadalen for an additional fee. Check your specific tour details to see what applies.

Vacation home

By car right to the door.

Oksfjordhjem is located directly opposite the farm: Øvergårdveien 400, 9158 Storslett. Parking is available at the house.

A car is practical for excursions in the region anyway. You can find everything regarding arrival and check-in on the holiday home page.

Airports

Arriving by plane

Tromsø

Around 180 kilometers

The largest airport in the North and our standard for multi-day tours. In winter, there are direct flights from several cities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland; otherwise, you fly with a layover in Oslo.

Current direct flights from Tromsø

Alta

Around 140 kilometers

Connections are available via Oslo. From Alta, it's a good two-hour drive via the E6.

Sørkjosen

Just under 40 kilometers

Our nearest airport, a small regional one. Widerøe flies there from Tromsø, and the flight takes about half an hour. Rental cars and taxis are available on-site.

On the road

Arriving by car

From Tromsø

The shorter route goes via the Lyngen Peninsula and two ferries: Breivikeidet–Svensby and Lyngseidet–Olderdalen. This is about 180 kilometers and takes three to four hours, depending on ferry connections. The ferries run all year round and you don't need to reserve; you can pay on board by card or in advance via FerryPay.

The last ferry departs in the evening. If you land late, take the route without ferries via the E8 and E6: around 260 kilometers, about four hours.

From Alta

Around 140 kilometers via the E6, about two hours. The route goes over the Kvænangsfjell. During storms, cars drive there in a convoy behind a snowplow, or the pass may be closed. You can check the current status from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, also in the "Vegvesen trafikk" app.

Traveling in winter

In Norway, winter tires are mandatory as soon as there is snow and ice; in the North, studs are permitted from mid-October to the end of April. Ask about this when booking your rental car. Plan for extra time: it is dark for long periods, and reindeer or moose can suddenly appear on the road.

The last few kilometers

From the E6, the route follows a gravel road in good condition, which is manageable with any car even in winter.

Public transport

Arriving by bus

Long-distance buses from Tromsø city center and Alta airport stop in Oksfjord on the E6, a few kilometers from the farm. They only run a few times a day, so plan your connection in advance. From Tromsø airport, you can take the airport bus or the city bus to the city center. You can find timetables and tickets in the Norwegian travel planner Entur.

Travel season

When is the best time?

Out with the dogs

In winter we ride on runners, in summer and autumn on training carts and on foot. The dates are listed with the tours.

Northern Lights

September to March, often into April. You need darkness and clear skies.

Polar Night

From late November to mid-January, the sun does not rise. However, there are still a few hours of blue twilight around midday.

Midnight Sun

From about mid-May to late July, the sun does not set.
