Multi-vision Evening at PZ Warburg
At the Edge of the World
Expeditions in the Arctic, Between Adventure and Responsibility
What does it feel like to hike for days through one of Europe's last great wilderness areas, far from any civilization? What does it mean to live, hike, and sleep peacefully with the constant possibility of encountering a polar bear? An evening with photos, videos, and stories from Svalbard.

What it's about
Without a guide, without a support team, at your own risk
Lukas Sommer reports on self-organized expeditions in Svalbard. He and his partner Rebecca Sordje travel alone: no guide, no support team, no external backup. The couple traverses the Arctic landscape armed with a rifle for protection against polar bears, as is required in Svalbard outside of settlements.
Beyond the expeditions, the evening will cover Svalbard's unique and protected wildlife, the consequences of climate change, and why the protection of the Arctic concerns us all. And how a landscape of glaciers, tundra, and fjords changes our view of the world.
With impressive photos and videos, Lukas Sommer takes the audience on a journey through personal stories of courage, teamwork, and decisions made under extreme conditions.

Who is speaking
Lukas Sommer
Grew up in Warburg, now at home in Nordreisa, Northern Norway, about 350 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. There, he and Rebecca Sordje run a husky farm with about forty sled dogs and lead guests on multi-day tours through the Arctic.
The expeditions in Svalbard are not these tours, but his own ventures. At the end of the evening, Lukas will provide insight into his work with Into the Wild and show how the Nordic wilderness can be experienced through guided tours.
