Skiing with a husky (skijöring)

Imagine: crisp snow beneath your feet, clear, frosty air, and you gliding through the endless, snow-covered valley alongside a babbling, icy river. Not alone. Together with our loyal, energetic huskies, , we explore the untouched winter wonderland. Skis on your feet, ski poles in your hands, a belt around your waist to which the husky is attached with a flexible rope, running in front of you in its harness and pulling you ont he trails. Bonus: during the tour, we may also see wild animals such as moose and birds. This is not just cross-country skiing. It is a real, heart-warming adventure where the enthusiasm of the dogs meets the breathtaking towering mountains. Experience speed, freedom and closeness to nature. Our expert guides ensure that this experience is safe, memorable and unforgettable.

Tour Details:

• Duration: 2 hours or 4 hours (December 1 – May 15, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM or 10:00-14:00). Included: putting on winter clothing and skiis, preparing the dogs, guided tour, break by the campfire with hot drinks and snacks during after the tour, packing-undressing after the tour. The transfer from your accomodation to the huskyfarm and back is not included in this time.
• Optional extended tour: Choose the 4 hour tour for those who want to explore even further 10:00-14:00.
• Attire: Wear warm, weather-appropriate clothing. We provide winter jackets, pants, winter skii boots, hats, and gloves. Thermo pads for hands and feet are recommended if you get cold easily.
• Flexibility: Snow conditions may vary – in some cases, the season may start as early as November and end end of May
• Age restrictions: from 14 years
• Level of difficulty: Medium
• Group Size: Maximum of 3 participants for a personal, immersive experience

Price, transfer & booking

• Price: NOK 1,115/person for the 2 hour long tour and NOK 2,115/person for the 4 hour long tour. Included: guiding, equipment, clothes, snacks. Not included: transport to/from your accommodation, travel insurance, warmer pads for your hand and feet.
• Transfer on request: On request, we will pick you up at your accommodation and bring you back. The transfer is an additional cost and time.
• Cancellation due to weather/problems: If the tour has to be cancelled and the alternative date is not suitable, we will refund the full amount
• Booking & payment:

Advance booking by email to booking@intothewild-norway.com or on our webpage directly. For appointments on the following day, please call. Payment by bank transfer after invoice you got in e-mail or buy bankcard when you book the tour on our webpage. Booking is only confirmed after receipt of payment. Bookable up to at least 2 months before the date. It is possible to pay on site at the huskyfarm using your bank card with a card reader. However, in this case, it is not possible to book the tour in advance.

• For guests at Oksfjordhjem: Payment before the start of the tour by bankcard.

Notes

• The distance covered and the location of the tour (frozen lake, valley) depend on the weather and snow conditions, fitness level.
• Dress warmly according to the weather. Come in clothes you won’t regret wearing if you are going to be doggy.

• Some skiing experience is required (but not mandatory), as the dog pulls you, so it would be difficult for complete beginners to get the hang of skiing with a pulling dog – but not impossible.
