Each guest should be able to master a full-day mountain hike well. All participants will have to help their dog team on passages in the mountains and walk behind the sled.

Detailed Program: 6 + 2 Days
On the day of arrival, we’ll pick you up from Tromsø Airport and drive together to Oksfjordhjem. There, you’ll have time to settle in. We’ll kit you out with our winter gear and give you your first briefing. Over dinner afterwards, we’ll discuss the rest of the itinerary for our adventure together.
On the first morning, we’ll assign the dog teams, give you a detailed briefing on sled driving, load the equipment together and head to our starting point.
From Kåfjorddalen, we’ll tackle a steep climb up the mountains on the south-western side of the Reisatal valley. The majestic panorama makes the long climb worthwhile. Once at the top, we’ll cross the plateau and leave Kåfjord behind us. After a while, a branch of the Reisatal valley opens up before us and we head there to our gamme, a tent modelled on the traditional Sami earth huts. It is equipped with a stove, six sleeping places, a table, a few chairs and an outdoor toilet. Everything needed to make a stay in the mountains comfortable. With the stove lit, the food tastes excellent and the view of the Reisatal valley rounds off our first day of the tour.
The next morning, we discuss the itinerary for the second day of the tour and, after a delicious breakfast, we harness the dogs together and set off. As we travel across the plateau, you can really let your mind wander before we focus on the descent into the Reisatal valley.
After setting off, we walk alongside the river to a beautifully situated hut with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains.
Once we reach our destination, we first tend to our dogs: we clean their paws, feed them and give them a little massage.
In the evening, we round off the day with a cosy dinner and a fire, and anyone who fancies it can warm up properly in the sauna.
After our daily debrief, looking after our four-legged friends and a delicious breakfast, we set off into the mountains on the other side of the Reisatal valley. Here, too, a long climb awaits us, which will leave one or two of us working up a sweat. The unique landscape and the sublime view down into the valley make one feel humbled by Mother Nature and leave a deep sense of contentment within.
Once we arrive at the fjell, a gamme awaits us, also equipped with a table, chairs, a stove and six sleeping places.
Here we tend to our four-legged friends’ paws again, feed them and round off the evening with delicious food, a warm fire and, for those who wish, a quick game of cards.
The next day, we head a little further up the mountain before nature rewards us with a breathtaking view of a striking mountain gorge. During a long, gentle descent, we can let our gaze wander and fully enjoy the landscape.
In the afternoon, we reach our next destination in Storelidalen, where we spend the night in a traditional lavu tent. Although somewhat more rustic than the gammes, we have the opportunity to be completely undisturbed in nature at one of Norway’s most beautiful spots. Here in the region, we hardly meet any other people and become completely at one with our dog teams in the wilderness.
The daily care and feeding of the dogs allow us to build a deep bond with our teams, and the powerful sled dogs show us their gentlest side.
We continue through the heart of the mountains via two small valleys, where we encounter the first trees again since Reisa. After a short descent, we must climb one last time before the long descent, which offers views of the sea, a mountain island and a frozen lake. Here, we are faced with what is probably Norway’s most beautiful panoramic view.
After this long descent into Oksfjorddalen, we take the dogs back to their kennels, where we feed and care for them together.
We spend the night in one of the two comfortable lodgings before our final day of the tour. Here, after a hot shower, we relax by the stove and wind down after a tiring day. On the last day of the tour, we harness the dog teams together and set off on a leisurely trek through the valley, marvelling at the mountains. We travel along a small river to the end of the valley. We then head back a short way to a plateau, with one last magnificent view of the Osfjorddalen. Afterwards, we return to base camp. Here, we fortify ourselves with a warm reindeer or elk soup. After tending to the dogs, we enjoy our final evening together and share the adventures we have experienced on our journey.
The next morning, we’ll take you early to the bus, which will take you back to Tromsø city centre or to the airport.
